Student Leadership
At Boynewood State School, student leadership is highly valued and plays an important role in our school culture. We believe leadership opportunities help students develop confidence, responsibility, resilience and the skills needed to make a positive contribution to their school and community.
As a small rural school, Boynewood State School provides leadership opportunities for students across all year levels. Students are encouraged to contribute to school life, support younger students and develop leadership skills through classroom responsibilities, sporting events, assemblies, community activities and Student Council initiatives.
Leadership opportunities are embedded within classroom learning, sporting events, community activities and whole-school programs. Students are encouraged to develop their leadership skills through teamwork, public speaking, problem-solving, representing the school, supporting younger students and contributing to decision-making processes.
In the upper primary years, students have opportunities to take on formal leadership roles within the school. These positions recognise students who consistently demonstrate our school values of being Responsible, Respectful and Resilient and who are committed to leading by example.
Each year, eligible students may be selected for leadership positions including:
• School Captain/s (depending on student numbers)
• Sports House Captain/s (depending on student numbers)
• Student Council Representatives (Years 3-6)
Towards the end of each year, eligible students interested in leadership positions for the following year are provided with information outlining the selection process and the roles and responsibilities of school leaders.
Our student leaders assist with assemblies, sporting events, school functions and community activities while helping to promote a positive and inclusive school environment.
The Student Council plays an active role in school life. Student Council members meet regularly with staff to discuss student ideas, plan events and contribute to school decision-making. They organise fundraising activities, special events and initiatives that benefit both the school and the wider community. Examples include themed dress-up days, lunchtime activities and fundraising projects chosen by students.
At Boynewood State School, we believe leadership is not limited to a badge or title. Every student is encouraged to develop leadership qualities by demonstrating initiative, showing kindness, taking responsibility for their actions and striving to make a positive difference each day.
Through these opportunities, we aim to develop confident, capable young people who are prepared to contribute positively to their community and embody our school motto, "Sow and Reap," by leading through service, effort and example.
